Excessive Wear and Tear of Diesel Generator Sets

December 05, 2018

Diesel generators will inevitably experience some wear after a period of use. What is important is that if there is unreasonable excessive wear, such a situation should be taken seriously.
First of all, we must analyze the reasons for this situation. You may think that it is due to improper use or some malfunction of the Diesel Generator. Therefore, we should understand what causes the diesel Generator to wear out, and we can solve the problem in a targeted manner after finding out the cause.
The wear and tear of diesel generators is generally affected by the quality of fuel and lubricants, the speed and load of the diesel engine, environmental conditions and operating conditions. And tests have shown that the friction of the diesel engine increases with the increase of the speed and load. As the load increases, the unit pressure on the friction surface increases and the thermal condition is poor. When the rotational speed increases, the number of frictions per unit time is increased by half, and at the same power, the rotational speed increases more than the load increases. However, too low a speed can also increase wear due to the inability to guarantee good liquid lubrication conditions.
Another factor contributing to the serious wear of diesel generators is the temperature in the genset environment. When the temperature is too high, the engine tends to overheat, and the viscosity of the lubricating oil is low, and the wear of the parts increases. When the temperature is low, the viscosity of the lubricating oil becomes large, and the diesel engine is difficult to start. The cooling water cannot maintain the normal temperature during operation, which increases the wear and corrosion of the parts. When the diesel engine is started at low temperature, the wear is more serious. Practice has shown that the cooling water temperature is controlled at 75~85 °C, and the lubricating oil temperature is most favorable at 75~95 °C.
The continued use of diesel generators in excessive wear will increase the shortening of their life and cause great losses. Therefore, we must remind you that when diesel generators have problems, they should be eliminated and solved in time.
