If the cooling system malfunctions, the cooling water temperature is too high or too low, which will not only affect the normal operation of the diesel engine, but even cause malfunctions and accidents. The cooling water should be made of slightly alkaline clean water. It must not contain corrosive compounds. The cooling medium should be developed from the cooling water to the cooling liquid. The cooling system should use clean soft water. The pH value of the cooling water should be controlled between 8 and 11 to minimize the fouling of the cooling system to prevent the cooling effect. In the use, the inside of the cooling system should be cleaned regularly with a chemical agent to ensure a good cooling cycle and normal heat dissipation.
 
In areas or seasons where the ambient temperature is higher than 5 °C, in order to reduce or avoid corrosion and scale accumulation of the cooling system, an appropriate amount of anti-corrosion oil should be added to the cooling water to form an anti-rust emulsion. For areas or seasons where the ambient temperature is below 5 °C, antifreeze is preferred when using a closed loop cooling system. The antifreeze has antifreeze function, the freezing point is low, the freezing point of water is "0". The boiling point of the antifreeze is >106 degrees, and the antifreeze is in contact with the engine metal for a long time, which can protect the metal part of the cooling system.
 
In the cold season, in order to facilitate the start of the diesel engine, hot water of about 80 °C can be added to the cooling system, or the oil of the oil pan can be heated and then started. At the end of the work, after the temperature of the diesel engine is lowered to 50~60 °C, the drain valves of the radiator and the cylinder block are all opened to allow the water in the cooling system to be drained.
